Self Sabotage Fear Of Success: Ways To Defeat It

If you find yourself unable to embrace success, or if you cannot envision yourself with good health, prosperity, or wealth when going after your ambitions and dreams, you might be one to encounter self sabotage fear of success.

When you find that you are not achieving your goals, for example you achieve part of one goal but do not complete this same goal in it’s entirety or you have brief successes. Most importantly, you find that the great things you deserve seem to be always just out of reach. This could mean that you are the victim of your own fear of success.

The fear of success sabotages might be difficult to understand because we are not consciously aware of them. This fear could be hidden in the subconscious area of the brain. In fact, you may never know why this fear exists within you without looking deeper into it’s causes.

Still, this fear can cause you to sabotage the dreams you cherish. Therefore you would want to find out if your actions thus far have been motivated by fear of success.

Is Fear of Success Causing You to Self Sabotage?

Think of a goal that you’d like to achieve. Then, take 20-30 minutes and answer the following question: “What will happen if I succeed?” Write down everything you can think of – both good and bad consequences of achieving your goal. It’s important to take at least 20 minutes to answer the question. Your early answers are likely to be superficial. Simply keep writing for at least 20 minutes. Put down everything that comes to mind. Nothing is too silly or too small. Then after 20 minutes of writing more answers are coming to you then keep going and write those down, but if not just stop writing and look over what you have written down.

Items You Might Include In Your List

Suppose your goal is to make $250,000 this year. You might include items like these in your list:

• I’ll be able to pay all my bills.
• I can buy a new car.
• I can go on a vacation.
• I’ll have to pay a lot in taxes.
• My brother will want a loan.
• I don’t know what to do with the money after I’ve got it.
• People will treat me differently.
• I should get a new house. But where would I live?
• My partner will try to spend it all.
• I’ll probably just lose it or invest it incorrectly.

Between the example above and what you may have written paper some of these things you want to buy are there and once you have made money, you should. But then, as you look deeper into your answers you can see your feelings about achieving your goals. In fact, you probably see some consequences of your achievement that are not-so-positive.

Some of the answers you wrote may reveal things that you actually fear will happen if you were to really achieve your goals.

goals are never completely free of fear. Achievement always involves change, and all change involves some apprehension. Many people desire success, but their feelings of fear due to change, will always outweigh the positive motives and unfortunately the progress you make will not only be slow, but a challenge.

How to Eliminate Your Fear of Self Sabotage

If you can make yourself aware of your apprehensions, you have the opportunity to attack each of them and eliminate them or at least minimize them so that you can make progress.

Looking directly at you fears is very powerful stuff. Fears that you won’t acknowledge for whatever reason will continue to grow. However, when you take the time to examine fears they can then be minimized, and this will help you to continue the completion of your goals.

Ultimately, if you look closely at your fears, you’ll see that the perceived side effects are what often seem scariest when pursing goals. So before you give up on your plans, ask yourself what would happen if you were ultimately successful. Tackle your fears head on and you can start achieving your dreams today!
